Illuminating Cold War History

My undergraduate honors thesis in history at the University of Florida contextualized the mix of paranoia and disdain that greeted James Vicary’s 1957 subliminal advertising experiment. My research drew extensively on primary sources from Vicary’s letters and papers at the University of Connecticut, as well as interviews conducted with advertising figures through the Samuel Proctor Oral History Project. BBC Radio 4 interviewed me for their January 24, 2015 program on the history of subliminal advertising in the U.S. and the U.K.: Can You Spot the Hidden Message?
